Robert Tang NPJ

Biography

Robert Tang was called to the English Bar at Gray’s Inn in 1969 and to the Hong Kong Bar in 1970. He was appointed a Queen’s Counsel in 1986 and became a Senior Counsel in 1997. He was appointed as a Judge of the Court of First Instance in April 2004, a Justice of Appeal in January 2005, a Vice President of the Court of Appeal in November 2006 and a Non-Permanent Hong Kong Judge of the Court of Final Appeal in September 2010 and a Permanent Judge of the Court of Final Appeal from October 2012 until his retirement on 24 October 2018. Upon his retirement, he was appointed as a Non-Permanent Hong Kong Judge of the Court of Final Appeal on 25 October 2018. He is attending the IBA Conference and speaking in his personal capacity. Robert Tang is the Chairman of the Standing Commission on Legal Education and Training, a trustee of the S.K. Yee Medical Foundation, a member of the International Advisory Board as well as a Council member of the Hong Kong International Arbitration Centre. He is also on the Panel of Arbitrators of CIETAC, a member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators in England and also a CEDR Accredited Mediator.
