Rhiannon Kinghall Were

Biography

Rhiannon Kinghall Were, Head of Tax Policy Macfarlanes LLP. In her role as Head of tax Policy, Rhiannon provides client support on a wide range of tax policy issues, monitoring and advising on the implications for business as they arise from proposals through to enacted legislation. The focus of Rhiannon’s work is largely reactive to the government’s priorities of the day and covers a wide remit of taxes affecting asset managers to large privately owned businesses. Day-to-day the role involves responding to consultations; liaising with government and wider stakeholders; and keeping clients up-to-date on new developments. Prior to joining Macfarlanes, Rhiannon spent five years at the CBI where she was responsible for leading the policy development of domestic tax issues affecting businesses operating in the UK. This involved analysis of tax policy developments; drafting responses to government consultations; and voicing the business community’s tax priorities. Rhiannon started her career in practice advising on corporate tax implications for multi-national enterprises. Rhiannon is a Chartered Tax Adviser; founding member and former Chair of the Women in Tax network; a representative for the UK’s Women in International Fiscal Association Network (WIN); and a member of the UK branch of the International Fiscal Association (IFA). Rhiannon has written for a number of publications and regularly speaks at external events.
