Biography
- Sir Robin sits in the Commercial Court, the Administrative Court, the Crown Court, and the Court of Appeal Criminal Division in England and Wales. He is a designated Judge of the Financial List.
- Accountable to an international Steering Group, Sir Robin is the judge with day-to-day responsibility for the global forum of the world’s commercial courts, the Standing International Forum of Commercial Courts (SIFoCC). Among other international work, Sir Robin is a former Chairman of the International Committee of the Judicial College of England & Wales.
- Sir Robin has a career-long involvement in the encouragement and coordination of legal pro bono work, nationally and internationally. He remains the Chairman of Advocate (the Bar Pro Bono Unit) and of the National Pro Bono Centre.
- Before appointment to the Bench, Sir Robin was Chairman of the Commercial Bar Association of England and Wales (2005-7). He is a qualified mediator and has sat as an arbitrator. He is a member of the Financial Markets Law Committee, and of its Board. He is a member of the Working Group addressing and piloting the reform of disclosure of documents in litigation in England & Wales.
- Through the pandemic, Sir Robin chaired the cross-sector Working Group on repossession of residential property and homelessness. Outside the law, he is a former Chairman of Together for Short Lives, the UK umbrella body for children’s palliative care and children’s hospices.
