Margret Vidar

Biography

Margret is a longstanding Legal Officer with the FAO Development Law Service, which provides legislative support to FAO Members, undertakes legal research and collects national laws and policies on food and agriculture in its dedicated legal database (FAOLEX.org). Margret has a law degree from her native Iceland and an LLM from the Raoul Wallenberg Institute of Human Rights and Humanitarian Law, in Lund, Sweden. Before joining FAO, she worked with the Icelandic Mission in Geneva, Amnesty International and the Office of the High Commissioner for Refugees. She worked for a decade in FAO’s General Legal Affairs Service, served for three years as Human Rights Advisor in the Economic and Social Department – Right to Food Team, and has since 2009 focused on making rights a reality through national legislation in the Development Law Service. She works primarily on food security and nutrition and the responsible governance of tenure.
