Biography

Desmond is a Partner in Dentons Rodyk's Intellectual Property and Technology practice, and has been with the firm since 2015. His area of practice primarily focuses on technology, privacy and cybersecurity laws. In the privacy and cybersecurity space, Desmond has represented and advised several clients in some of the largest data breaches in Singapore, including the SingHealth Cyber Attack. He regularly assists his clients with incident response and reporting, and participates in many of the clients’ remediation measures. Desmond also assist his clients to navigate through the data protection landscape in Asia and Europe by conducting data privacy regulatory reviews and impact assessment in relation to the implementation of various novel technologies. He is regularly called upon by his clients to assist in the drafting and negotiations of data protection and cybersecurity agreements. In the technology space, Desmond has extensive experience in advising clients on a range of technology contracts, including system acquisition, XAAS contracts, software licences and platform terms of use. Desmond’s work on this front often involves cutting edge technologies, including self-sovereign identity and smart city solutions. Desmond has also contributed as a member of the Singapore Academy of Law’s Artificial Intelligence and Robotics Law Reform Committee. Desmond is also experienced in advising on intellectual property laws, with a particular focus on trademark litigation, border enforcement actions, and cross border licensing arrangements. He has assisted on several contentious intellectual property matters before the Singapore Courts, as well as the Intellectual Property Office. In this respect, Desmond has been recognised as a rising star in Managing Intellectual Property IP Stars 2018.
