Abbey Dalton

Biography

Abbey Dalton (she/her) is a solicitor in the human rights team at the Victorian Government Solicitor's Office in Melbourne, Australia. She advises government departments and agencies on human rights and equal opportunity law, with a strong emphasis on issues arising under Victoria's Charter of Human Rights and Responsibilities Act 2006. This includes drafting Statements of Compatibility for parliamentary bills and regulations, and Charter assessments for government decisions and policies. She also acts for the Attorney-General and other public authorities in litigation involving human rights issues. Abbey also has a breadth of experience in a range of not-for-profit and human rights organisations. She is one of the co-founders and co-chair of the Disabled Australian Lawyers Association (DALA), the peak body advocating for disabled lawyers in Australia. In this role, she leads a range of initiatives and advocacy aiming to increase the representation and inclusion of disabled people in the legal profession.
