Biography

Pulina is co-leader of the firm’s global privacy and cybersecurity practice and leader of the firm’s international data privacy practice. Pulina has been described by clients in The Legal 500 as “extremely knowledgeable with a practical approach” and is recommended as a Leading Practitioner for data privacy work, with clients describing her as being “head and shoulders above the data protection and privacy pack on her command of law, requirements, and implementation”. She is also ranked as a Star Lawyer in the Acritas rankings from 2017 to 2022. Pulina was on the Bank of England Financial Services Committee and helped prepare a response to new UK legislation and also participated in the Employment Lawyers Association Working Party to provide a response to the ICO consultation on subject access requests. Pulina participated in the US-UK trade working party on implementing new UK adequacy and transfer arrangements post-Brexit. Pulina is frequently asked to advise on governance matters in an employment context (the “G” in ESG), particularly where employment and privacy intersect, including with respect to conducting background screening checks, advising on managing data issues in investigations (monitoring employees, transferring cross-border employee data, and disclosing employee data to defend or instigate litigation or compliance investigations). Pulina serves as an appointed Compliance Monitor for the United Nations (UN) (for more than 10 years) and has completed a three-year Compliance Monitor engagement of a UK charity for the US Agency for International Development (USAID), both of which involved complex data processing and transfer issues relating to disclosure of personal data to the UN/USAID for investigations and commercial sanctions.
