Richard May

Biography

Richard has been a Competition Expert at the OECD since 2021. He works on a range of competition policy issues, including leading the Division's work on artificial intelligence, and is responsible for coordinating the Competition Division’s work on market studies. Richard has over 15 years' experience in competition and regulatory economics, and significant experience working for competition authorities. Most recently he was the Principal Advisor for Market Studies at the New Zealand Commerce Commission, where he previously also led teams in the investigation of mergers. Prior to his time in New Zealand, Richard spent several years at the UK’s Competition and Markets Authority, where he was an Assistant Director of Economics, as well as a shorter period within the UK Financial Conduct Authority’s competition team. During his time at these authorities, Richard provided economic advice on a wide range of competition cases, as well as spending time as Head of Economic Research and Evaluation at the CMA. Richard began his career at boutique economics consultancy Reckon LLP in London, providing advice on regulatory and competition issues.
