Biography
Shola OSHODI-JOHN, FCArb, is the Chief Executive Officer/Registrar, Member of the Governing Council and Head of the ADR Centre of the Nigerian Institute of Chartered Arbitrators (NICArb), the first Arbitration (and ADR) institute in Sub-Saharan Africa. She serves as Senior Faculty Member of the Institute and the Editor of the Journal of Arbitration. She has extensive experience in advocacy, administration, training, policy, and change management. With over 3 decades of work experience, she has served as a solicitor and legal adviser to corporate and not-for-profit organisations. Shola is an Arbitrator and Mediator and a passionate advocate for the domestication and promotion of arbitration and other Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) practices in Nigeria (and Africa); she is a seasoned organiser and trainer in arbitration/ADR, having facilitated numerous trainings across professional backgrounds, for individuals, corporate organisations, states and international bodies. Oversee the induction of over 6,000 professionals into arbitration and ADR practice. In addition to hosting NICArb's annual international conference on arbitration/ADR with over 5000 participants, Shola is a regular speaker at global and national conferences on Arbitration and Alternative Dispute Resolution. As an accredited arbitrator, she is known for upholding integrity, excellence and neutrality in arbitral proceedings. She serves on several panels and committees dedicated to strengthening dispute resolution mechanisms and is a regular speaker/panellist on arbitration, mediation, and justice sector reform. She holds a degree in Law, LLB (Hons) from the Lagos State University, Lagos, Nigeria, BL degree from the Nigerian Law School and a Master’s Degree in Public Policy and Management, with a certificate in Non-Profit Management from the University of Pittsburgh, Pittsburgh, USA and an alumnus of Lagos Business School, Lagos, Nigeria. She is a fellow of the Nigerian Institute of Chartered Arbitrators (NICArb) Advisory Board Member, Institute of Transnational Arbitration (ITA) and Associate, Institute of Chartered Mediators and Conciliators (ChMC). Member of the UNCITRAL Working II and III, Member, Nigerian Bar Association, African Bar Association, Lagos Court of Arbitration, Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC) Alternative Dispute Resolution Centre, Edo State Multidoor Court House, and several other arbitration/ADR centers panel of Neutral. Shola is passionate about Arbitration and other forms of ADR, institutional reform, and legal education, and continues to advocate for integrating ADR into mainstream legal curricula and practice in Nigeria.
