Usha Kulasegaran
Biography
Usha Kulasegaran is a Member of the Malaysian Bar. She has been active in Legal Practice of Criminal and Civil Litigation in the Malaysian Courts. Currently, she is also pursuing her Phd in International Criminal Law and International Justice. She has an LLM Masters Degree in International Law (Masters in International Criminal Law and Justice) specialising in the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court (ICC). She is a graduate of the University of Sussex, England, and her areas of expertise are International Criminal Justice (ICJ) and International Criminal Law (ICL). She is the Co-Chair of the International Bar Association (IBA) Access to Justice and Legal Aid Committee. She is also an Officer of the War Crimes Committee that deals with the four major International Crimes, namely War Crimes, Genocide, Crimes of Aggression, and Crimes against Humanity. Further, she is with the IBA Human Rights Institute, IBAHRI. Usha is a Member of the International Law Association (ILA). She has completed her Public International Law Training at the Hague Academy of International Law at The Hague, Netherlands. In August 2022, Usha was a Speaker at the Lawasia Human Rights Conference on the Topic “Access to Justice for Victims of Armed Conflict.”. And in November 2021, Usha was also Speaker at the LAWASIA conference on the topic “International Criminal Justice in the Asia-Pacific Region”. For the Years 2021/2022, Usha was selected to the International Visitor Leadership Programme, IVLP in Washington, DC, the prestigious programme by the USA Department of State. She is the sole Malaysian to be granted the honour to represent Malaysia for the IVLP Peace and Justice Programme for the Years 2021/2022.
