Tom Driessen EMPM BSc
Biography
Tom Driessen is a strategic advisor with considerable expertise in the security field and the nexus between the political and administrative domains. As a well respected crime fighter with a strong eye for vision and leadership, he helped develop many new organizations and numerous strategies, including in the fight against international organized crime and terrorism. Driessen started his career as a police inspector in 1979 and graduated in 1990 as BSc in Business Economics & Data Science. In 2001 he completed the Police Strategic Leadership course and in 2004 the Defence Strategic leadership course. During the 1980's he worked as a police commander in the centre of The Hague and since the early 90's he has led several major investigations and international investigative teams. He was the first Director of the National Bureau of Investigations in the Netherlands and was the International Vice-President of the IACP for several years. Driessen had also served as Director of the National Bureau for International Police Cooperation. In this position he was responsible for the first police-missions abroad, in both UN and EU context. Most recently, he acted as the fist director of the multidisciplinary Strategic Knowledge and Intelligence Centre for international organized crime. At present he works as an independent strategic advisor and provides insight into current security risks within the international legal order, developments within police-policy and the necessary development of a vision and strategy in the field of combatting internationally organized crime and modern policing in our society.
