Constantino Álvarez Casado
Biography
Constantino Álvarez Casado is a Postdoctoral Researcher at the Center for Machine Vision and Signal Analysis, University of Oulu, Finland, and Senior Scientist, Research and Compliance Director at Candour. His work focuses on computer vision, artificial intelligence, biometric identity verification, remote identity proofing, multimodal sensing, and trustworthy AI systems. At the University of Oulu, his research addresses contactless human sensing, physiological signal analysis, multimodal computer vision, and AI-based systems for health, security, education, and human-machine interaction. At Candour, he works at the intersection of biometric identity technologies, digital identity regulation, cybersecurity, and compliance, with emphasis on remote onboarding, liveness detection, document verification, NFC/eMRTD processing, injection-attack mitigation, and auditability of identity systems. He holds a Doctor of Science in Technology in Computer Science and Engineering from the University of Oulu. His technical and regulatory work connects biometric and AI-based identity verification with frameworks such as eIDAS 2.0, the EUDI Wallet ecosystem, GDPR, NIS2, DORA, the EU AI Act, and relevant standards for trustworthy digital identity and remote identity proofing. His perspective combines academic research, practical deployment of identity-verification systems, and compliance-oriented product development, with a particular focus on how privacy, security, liability and biometric assurance are evolving in the European digital identity wallet era.
