Amanda Wall
Biography
Amanda J. Wall was appointed as the Legal Adviser and Director of the Office of Legal Affairs at NATO Headquarters in 2026. In this role, she acts as chief legal adviser to the Secretary-General and leads the multinational legal team in the Office of Legal Affairs. She also represents NATO in external legal bodies such as the Council of Europe's Committee of Legal Advisers and conducts regular engagements with NATO Allies, Partners, and other international organizations as well as the general public. Prior to joining NATO, Ms. Wall was the Assistant Legal Adviser for Management in the U.S. Department of State's Office of the Legal Adviser from 2023-2026, and served as an attorney in that office from 2012-2021 across various practice areas, including the law of armed conflict, international human rights law, and ethics. From 2021-2023, she was Deputy Legal Adviser for the U.S. National Security Council Staff at the White House. From 2017-2025, she was an adjunct professor at Georgetown University, where she taught in both the Law School and the School of Foreign Service. She is a graduate of the University of Chicago and Georgetown University Law School.
