Biography

Katherine Liu leads the Fintech and Financial Regulatory Group at Stephenson Harwood, Hong Kong. She recently won the "Fintech Lawyer of the Year" Award at the ALB Hong Kong Law Awards in September 2024, and was recommended by clients in Legal 500 (Fintech and Financial Regulatory) 2025 that "Katherine Liu's profound knowledge and insight into this rapidly evolving sector are invaluable, making her a standout advisor for any company navigating the complexities of virtual asset regulations in Hong Kong." She regularly advises financial services providers, including conventional and digital banks, securities firms, asset managers, payment companies and virtual assets services providers, on a wide range of issues, including compliance with financial regulation and personal data laws. She has acted for various financial institutions relating to their establishment, merger and acquisition or closure in Hong Kong and the launches of their products and services. Katherine also speaks at seminars and conferences on financial services regulations frequently, seeks to raise people's awareness on topical issues and considers how new technological and legal developments can impact the financial services industry.
