Biography

Dr. András Szecskay is a Hungarian attorney admitted to the Budapest Bar Association, founder and managing partner of Szecskay Attorneys at Law. Dr. Szecskay currently specializes in litigation and arbitration, M&A transactions, corporate and project finance and IP law. He has been an active member of the Budapest Bar Association, as a member of the Executive Board and, between 2002 and 2018, he has served as Vice-President responsible for International Relations. In 2010 Dr. Szecskay was also made Vice President of the Hungarian Bar Association, in charge of International Relations. Since 2010, Dr. Szecskay has also been the President of the Hungarian Association for the Protection of Industrial Property and Copyright. He is an active member of various other professional organizations. In 2000 he was presented with the "Eötvös Award" by the Budapest Bar Association; in 2003 he was recognized as an "Exemplary Lawyer" by the Hungarian Bar Association and in 2011 he received the award "Pro Collegium Advocatorum" from the Hungarian Bar Association. In 2008, the President of Hungary awarded Dr. Szecskay with the "Knight’s Cross Order of Merit of the Republic of Hungary". In 2014 he received the highest joint award of all legal professions, the "Deák Ferenc Award" ("Pro Meritis De Iuris Peritia"); and in 2019 he was awarded by the Hungarian Bar Association with the lifetime achievement prize "In the Service of Law". For his work in the field of intellectual property, in 2021 he received the “Jedlik Ányos Award” from the Hungarian Intellectual Property Office. Besides being a leading arbitrator in Hungary, Dr. Szecskay is listed on the list of practitioners of the Vienna International Arbitration Center and the Roll of Arbitrators of the Hungarian Chamber of Agriculture. He is member of the Board of Trustees of the City of Kecskemét Bozsó Art Collection since 1993, and the Budapest Festival Orchestra Foundation since 2008. Dr. Szecskay regularly lectures at domestic and international conferences and is the author / co-author of several articles and publications appearing in both Hungarian and foreign legal books and papers.
