Eskedar Awgichew Ergete

Biography

Founder and executive director of Eco-justice Ethiopia Eskedar Awgichew Ergete, a licensed attorney and a passionate advocate for environmental rights and climate justice. With over 10 years of experience in legal research, advocacy, and project management, he previously directed the Environment and Natural Resources Law Center at Mekelle University, where he also taught law. A 2018 Mandela Washington Fellow (University of Wisconsin-Madison) and 2023 Chevening Fellow, Eskedar holds an LL.B and a Master's in Environment and Natural Resources Law. He is a member of the Horn of Africa Climate Security Working Group. Eskedar supports Ethiopia's delegation in UNFCCC-COP processes and designated authorities negotiating multilateral environmental agreements, such as the plastics treaty [INC Processes]. He is committed to protecting the environment and promoting environmental justice in Ethiopia and beyond.
