Tuğana Sapmaz
Biography
I am Tuğana Sapmaz, a licensed attorney registered with the Istanbul Bar Association since 2019. I earned my Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) from the Istanbul Kültür University Faculty of Law, one of Turkey’s top-ranked private law schools. Having lived in the Middle East, the Caucasus, the Mediterranean, and North America, I have developed a global legal perspective that continues to shape my academic and professional growth. Throughout my legal education and post-graduation, I gained experience in criminal, corporate, commercial, family, and immigration law, building a solid foundation across various legal disciplines. Upon being admitted to the International Legal Studies Program at American University Washington College of Law with a merit-based scholarship, I chose to specialize in International Trade and Business Law as part of my Master of Laws (LL.M.) studies. Recognizing my academic achievements and strong interest in legal writing and research, I was selected as a Dean’s Fellow for the International Legal Studies Program (ILSP) for the Spring 2025 term, where I actively contribute to the program’s research and initiatives. The Excellence for the Future Award in Legal Ethics (CALI Award) recognized my dedication to legal ethics and professional responsibility. Additionally, I serve as the Public Relations Officer for the LL.M. Board at American University Washington College of Law. I actively support international LL.M. students by enhancing their access to academic and professional opportunities and leading initiatives to foster their success. My interest in ethics and compliance has led me to examine the regulatory compliance processes of multinational corporations closely, focusing on how businesses align with international legal and ethical standards. I am committed to deepening my expertise in this field and contributing to developing effective legal compliance strategies in a global business environment
