Ahmed Bakry
Biography
Ahmed Bakry is a Judge, Arbitrator, Academic, and Legal Advisor currently serving at the Abu Dhabi Commercial Court, where he has sat since 2020. He heads two commercial chambers, including a specialized chamber issuing bilingual (Arabic–English) commercial judgments. His judicial work builds on nearly two decades of experience across international disputes, arbitration, and commercial litigation. Before joining the Abu Dhabi judiciary, Judge Bakry served for six years in the International Disputes Department of the Egyptian Cabinet, where he represented the Egyptian State and state-owned entities in major investment and commercial arbitrations, and contributed to the negotiation and settlement of several high-value disputes. He previously worked as a Public Prosecutor and later as a Judge in Egypt’s civil and commercial courts. Judge Bakry holds an LL.M degree earned through an intercollegiate program at SOAS and Queen Mary University of London. He is currently pursuing a PhD at Leiden University, focusing on parallel proceedings and jurisdictional conflicts in international arbitration. His international work also includes serving as an expert for the EU’s EUROJUST initiatives, advising on asset-recovery cooperation in criminal matters between EU and Mediterranean countries.
