Biography

Juan Mullerat is an internationally recognized city planner and urban designer, and the Founding Principal of Plusurbia Design, a Miami-based urban design and planning fi rm dedicated to creating value-driven, context-sensitive solutions for cities worldwide. With a practice rooted in people-centered urbanism, Plusurbia focuses on revitalization, equity, and sustainability through design that celebrates the identity of place. With over 25 years of experience in architecture and urban design, Mullerat has led award-winning projects across fi ve continents. His portfolio includes the Little Havana Revitalization Plan (in collaboration with the National Trust for Historic Preservation), the Wynwood Master Plan—recipient of the American Planning Association’s 2017 National Economic Planning Award—and the Songhua Lake Master Plan in China, which earned the 2015 Chinese Kingpan Award. His work was honored with the International Livable Cities Award in 2019, and he was named Urban Designer of the Year by AIA Miami in 2013. Most recently, Mullerat led the development of the new Resiliency Zoning Code for the City of Miami Beach, a pioneering initiative that places the city at the forefront of climate adaptation and coastal urban resilience. The code reimagines regulatory frameworks to address sea level rise, heat, and environmental vulnerability—protecting vulnerable communities while preserving livable, economically vibrant neighborhoods.
