Biography

Partner at SORAINEN law firm, and head of the Corporate Crime Investigation Practice. Expert in the European Commission's expert group on EU criminal policy issues. Author and co-author of several scientific publications, articles and research papers. Some of my most important contributions came earlier in my career: participating in the founding of Latvia’s Corruption Prevention and Combating Bureau; contributing to the introduction of corporate criminal liability into Latvian law; serving as Latvia’s expert in the Council of Europe’s anti-corruption group GRECO; and earning a doctoral degree for research on the criminal procedural immunity of public officials. These cornerstones laid the foundation for a lifelong commitment to legal innovation. When asked what change I am most passionate about driving in my area of legal practice, my answer would be as follows. I am deeply interested in how criminal law must evolve to keep pace with rapidly changing socio-economic and technological realities. As a social phenomenon, crime adapts quickly – often faster than the law can respond. From virtual fraud and cryptocurrency schemes to the misuse of AI, we increasingly see that criminals innovate faster than legislators. This drives my passion for ongoing legal development in my practice and policy roles. To effectively support victims of emerging crime types, legal practitioners must anticipate perpetrators’ tactics. This sometimes requires being able to think like a criminal would do it in order to stay one step ahead: understanding their motives, tools, and logic. That strategic mindset, combined with legal expertise, allows us to be proactive and innovative in defending clients and proposing legal reform. I see it as both a responsibility and a privilege to help shape how criminal law responds to tomorrow’s risks – not just today’s. It has been a great honour to be nominated as one of the TOP 10 innovative practitioners by the Financial Times in 2025. I`m a proud holder of the Chambers Global and Chambers Europe ranking in Dispute Resolution.
