Biography

Avi is co-head of Mergers & Acquisitions (M&A) in the Americas and global head of the Activism and Shareholder Advisory and Takeover Defense Practices. Previously, he was global head of the Financial Institutions M&A business. Avi joined Goldman Sachs in 1996 as an associate in New York in the M&A Group where he advised clients in the consumer, industrials and healthcare industries. He transferred to the Technology, Media and Telecommunications Group in 2002, continuing to focus on M&A. From 2006 to 2010, he was co-head of the Technology M&A business. He relocated to Dubai in 2010, where he led the Investment Banking Division for the Middle East and North Africa. He returned to New York in 2012 as global head of the Real Estate, Gaming and Lodging M&A business from 2012 to 2015. Avi was named managing director in 2004 and partner in 2010. Avi serves on the Board of Trustees of Horace Mann School where he is an officer of the Board, a member of the Executive Committee, and co-chair of the Finance Committee. He has also served on the Hunter College Foundation Board of Trustees from 2004 to 2024 and was vice-chair of the Finance & Investments Committee. Avi earned a BS, with distinction, in Electrical Engineering from Cornell University in 1991 and an MBA from Stanford University’s Graduate School of Business in 1996.
