Oscar Mayo

Biography

Óscar Mayo is a prominent executive in the global sports industry. He holds a degree in Physical Activity and Sports Sciences, a diploma in Physical Education from the European University of Madrid, and an Executive MBA from IEDE Business School. Óscar has demonstrated exceptional leadership at the intersection of consulting, marketing, and business management, particularly in the sports industry. Óscar joined LaLiga in April 2017 after gaining significant experience in leadership roles within the Education, Marketing, and Fitness industries. He began his career at LaLiga as Executive Agent to the President, quickly rising to positions of greater influence. In December 2017, he was promoted to Director of International Development, where he also took on responsibilities in Marketing and Commercial Management in June 2020. In 2021, Óscar assumed the role of Executive General Director, reporting directly to the President, Javier Tebas, and holding key positions on several boards of directors. Under his leadership, LaLiga underwent a significant transformation, multiplying international television rights revenues and establishing strategic alliances that expanded its global influence. These included key projects such as the historic agreement with CVC and collaborations with global giants like Disney and Microsoft. Since January 2024, Óscar has served as Chief Revenue and Operations Officer at Atlético de Madrid, reporting to the CEO and majority shareholder. His responsibilities encompass Marketing, Commercial, Stadium Operations, Infrastructure, Technology, Sustainability, and the ambitious Sports City project. He has led the signing of major sponsorship agreements with brands such as Riyadh Air, RedBull, AlphaTauri, Kraken, LG, NIKE and Google, among others, driving growth in the club’s visibility, revenue, and social impact. Under his leadership, the club has reached a record number of non-season ticket members (over 149,000) and season ticket holders, becoming a global benchmark for social media growth over the past 12 months. Additionally, he spearheads the innovative Sports City project, promising to revolutionize sports and entertainment infrastructure. Recognized on the prestigious Leaders Under 40 list in 2023 as one of the most influential executives under 40 worldwide—and the first Spaniard to receive this honour—Óscar Mayo continues to shape the future of the global sports industry with vision and determination.
