Biography

Founder and President of ELS Group; Member of the Advisory Board of the World Law & Justice Forum (WLJF); Professor at the University of Lisbon, Portugal. Master’s degree in Pharmaceutical Sciences from the University of Lisbon; postgraduate degree in Strategic Negotiations from Harvard Business School, USA; postgraduate degree in Competitive Intelligence from the Academy of Competitive Intelligence, USA; OPM Class of 64 alumnus at Harvard Business School; MBA in Marketing from the Catholic University of Portugal; academic Master’s degree in Marketing from the Catholic University of Portugal; PhD in Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences from the Federal University of São Paulo; and postdoctoral fellowship in Social Pharmacy at the University of Lisbon. Specialist in Internationalization, Regulatory Affairs, Marketing and Innovation, with 25 executive programs completed at institutions such as Harvard Business School, the Academy of Competitive Intelligence (ACI), the Brazilian Institute of Corporate Governance and the Portuguese Institute of Corporate Governance, holding Non-Executive Board Director certification from both institutes. With a 27-year career as CEO, COO and executive manager in several companies in the healthcare and pharmaceutical industries, Prof. Dr. Sousa-Martins is the author of multiple scientific articles and book chapters, has delivered more than 150 oral presentations, is the inventor of 9 international patents, and was the recipient of the 2013 CAPES Award, granted by Brazil’s Ministry of Science and Technology for the best doctoral thesis in Ophthalmology. Former President of the Health and Pharmaceutical Committee of the Portuguese Observatory for Compliance and Regulatory Affairs from 2018 to 2021. Member of the Portuguese Chemical Society, the Portuguese Pharmaceutical Society, the Regional Pharmacy Council of São Paulo, the Harvard Alumni Association (HAA), the Harvard Club of Portugal and Brazil, and the Entrepreneurs’ Organization Global Chapter.
