Biography

Alina Butrim is a legal researcher and practitioner whose work examines the regulation of cross-border trade and transportation. She is the author of two books devoted to legal problems in merchant shipping and railway transport. Her publications explore how legal rules function in complex commercial relationships and how they shape the resolution of disputes arising from international business. Her research is informed by more than fifteen years of professional experience in the transport and commodities sectors. She currently works as Senior Lawyer at EMVE Trading DMCC in Dubai and previously served as Head of Legal and Compliance at a major seaport terminal. This experience provides the practical foundation for her work on the legal consequences of commercial risk, regulatory restrictions and disrupted transportation. Alina also contributes to the development of legal scholarship and professional practice through arbitration and peer review. She serves as an arbitrator with the Arbitration Center at the Russian Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs and represents her jurisdiction within the IBA Young Lawyers’ Committee. She holds master’s degrees in law from the University of Hamburg and Brigham Young University.
