Jyotsna Jayaram

Biography

Jyotsna Jayaram is a Partner in the Bengaluru office of Trilegal and is part of the TMT practice group. Jyotsna has a breadth of transactional & regulatory experience spanning over 15 years. Jyotsna routinely advises both domestic and overseas clients on various regulatory aspects of their business, including on data privacy, content regulation, digital communications, technology-based financial services, technology transfer, and various emerging technologies including artificial intelligence. She also assists with drafting and negotiating commercial contracts and outsourcing, in the IT, manufacturing sectors and on a wide range of other commercial and corporate matters. Jyotsna routinely advises major internet companies, platforms, OTT players, and news and current affairs organisations in relation to their content moderation practices as well as responding to takedown notices and grievances. She has also advised AI companies on intermediary liability and safe harbour issues, content regulation, and compliance with India’s emerging synthetically generated content rules, including the new SGI amendments and related labelling, disclosure and provenance requirements. Jyotsna has also been assisting multiple clients (particularly in the FinTech, EdTech, HealthTech and digital content space) in structuring their business models with the regulations governing intermediaries, the e-commerce rules and RBI’s mandates on payment related services. On the back of Schrems II, Jyotsna advises several foreign clients on the cross-border transfers of data into India. She has also been advising several domestic and international clients on the impact of the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 on their business models and existing privacy practices.
