Laura Gheorghiu

Biography

Laura’s practice focuses on corporate taxation, corporate re-organizations, cross-border transactions, structuring domestic and multi-national private equity funds and emerging technologies including blockchain. Her expertise spans both Federal and Quebec income, sales and payroll taxes. Laura has been recognized as a Women in Tax Leader in 2017-2019 by the International Tax Review and was named a “Rising Star” by the Association of Quebec Women in Finance in 2019. Laura is a frequent writer and speaker at the Canadian Tax Foundation, the American Bar Association the New York State Bar Association and McGill Law School. She also serves as editor of the Taxation of Executive Compensation and Retirement Journal (Federated Press) and the International Tax Planning Journal (Federated Press) and is a co-author of the Taxation Chapter of the “Business Guide to Environmental Law” book and of the “Taxation of Private Corporations and their Shareholders” book (CTF). She is also a member of the Canadian Tax Foundation - Montréal Steering Committee. Laura placed first in the LLM-Tax program at HEC Montréal and received a number of awards during her studies. Laura also holds a Bachelor of Civil Law and a Bachelor of Common Law from McGill University and a Bachelor of Business Administration.
