Jan Lawrence Handzlik

Biography

Jan is an accomplished investigations, regulatory & trial lawyer who specializes in white-collar criminal defense, regulatory enforcement actions & complex civil litigation. He is past Co-Chair of the IBA's Business Crime Committee and past Chair of the American Bar Association's National White-Collar Crime Committee. Jan defends companies & individuals in prosecutions, litigation and investigations in the US and abroad. A former a federal fraud prosecutor, he has tried over 100 jury trials & numerous bench trials to verdict in the US federal & state courts. Jan is a recognized expert on transnational investigations, trial practice and financial crimes, including bank fraud, money laundering, tax and securities fraud, and export controls, as well as public corruption and foreign bribery under the FCPA. He is one of only a handful of US lawyers to have tried and successfully defended a corporation and its CEO in a major FCPA prosecution, US v. Lindsey Manufacturing Co., et al. While in private practice, Jan served for three years as one of the first independent law compliance monitors appointed under the FCPA. During that period, he monitored and reported on the activities of a Swiss multinational corporation. Jan advises clients on law compliance and crisis management and conducts corporate internal investigations. He represents clients in multilateral investigations, coordinating parallel civil, criminal and regulatory proceedings.
