Simone Lahorgue Nunes

Biography

Simone Lahorgue Nunes holds a Ph.D. and Master’s degree in Economic Law from the Universidade de São Paulo (USP). She is a Professor at Fundação Getúlio Vargas (FGV) Law School in Rio de Janeiro where she teaches Media & Entertainment Law, and Privacy & Data Protection Law. Simone is an arbitrator for the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) Arbitration and Mediation Center and for the CDD-ABPI and CArb-ABPI of the Brazilian Association of Intellectual Property (ABPI). She is a member of the Certification Advisory Board of the International Association of Privacy Professional (IAPP) (2025-2027). Certifications from IAPP include Certified Information Privacy Professional / Europe CIPP – E; Certified Information Privacy Manager – CIPM; and Certified Data Protection Officer – CDPO/BR. At the International Bar Association (IBA), she is a member of the Advisory Board for the Technology Law Committee, where she served as co-chair (2015-2016). She was also chair of the Sports Law Subcommittee (2020-2021). Mrs. Lahorgue is the founding Partner at Lahorgue Advogadas Associadas, a boutique law firm that specializes in Media & Entertainment and Privacy & Data Protection Law. Simone is the author of the books Curso de Direito da Mídia e do Entretenimento / Media and Entertainment Law Textbook (Quartier Latin, 2025); Direito Autoral e Direito Antitruste / Copyright and Antitrust Law (Elsevier, 2011); and Os Fundamentos e o Limite do Poder Regulamentar no Âmbito do Mercado Financeiro / The Foundations and Limits of Regulatory Power in the Financial Market (Renovar, 2000). She has authored various articles – published both in Brazil and abroad – on subjects such as copyright, personality rights, freedom of expression, right to information, privacy and data protection, among others. Mrs. Lahorgue is co-chair of the executive board of Equality Now, an international non-governmental organization committed to protecting and promoting the rights of women and girls worldwide.
