Francisco Müssnich

Biography

Francisco Mussnich or Chico Mussnich as he is often referred to, is a senior and founding partner of BMA - Barbosa Müssnich Aragão (1995) and is active in both national and international arbitrations and provides strategic advice in hostile takeovers and corporate disputes. He has represented clients, all leaders in their sectors, in historic transactions in Brazil in recent decades. He holds a JD from the Pontificia Universidade Católica - PUC/Rio, 1976 a Master of Laws from Harvard Law School, 1979 (duly recognized in Brazil) and from Fundação Getulio Vargas - FGV/Rio, 2015. He is a Doctorate candidate at the Goethe Universität Frankfurt with the subject Dual Class Shares. He was a former member of the Superior Court of Sports Justice for Soccer (STJD - Superior Tribunal de Justiça Desportiva do Futebol) from 2004 through 2012 and the National Reporter for the 2009 Brazilian Code of Sports Justice. He has acted as legal counsel to the Local Organizing Committee for the 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil since its bidding process in 2007. He is a Professor of Corporate Law at PUC/RJ since 1981 and FGV/Rio since 2015 and a Visiting Professor teaching International Mergers and Acquisitions at the Vanderbilt Law School since 2010. He also acted as an Arbitrator for the ad hoc Division of the Court of Arbitration for Sport at the Games of the XXXI Olympiad - Rio 2016 and at the Games of the XXXII Olympiad - Tokyo 2021. He is the author of Letters to a Young Lawyer in its second edition and Insider Trading in the Brazilian Legal System. In 2020 he participated in the Brazilian Stock Exchange [B3] working group that prepared the first draft of the Bill that created super voting shares in Brazil. Law 14.195 was enacted in 2021.
