Biography

José Gregorio Torrealba is an experienced lawyer specializing in domestic and international litigation and arbitration, with a focus on disputes involving governments and state-owned entities. He has acted as counsel in several high-profile arbitration cases, including those conducted under ICC, UNCITRAL, ICSID, and CACC rules, representing multinational companies in disputes against the Venezuelan government and other state entities. His extensive experience includes claims related to infrastructure projects, expropriations, and breach of state contracts, with amounts in dispute reaching up to USD 2.5 billion. José Gregorio has also successfully handled negotiations for the payment of arbitral awards as well as their enforcement in Venezuela and foreign jurisdictions, leveraging his deep knowledge of international investment law, public law, and arbitration. His career spans significant roles, such as a senior partner at one of the leading Venezuelan law firms, and he is currently a partner at JGTorrealba in London. He is also a member of the ICC International Court of Arbitration. Torrealba has been actively involved in academia, lecturing on subjects related to arbitration and public procurement, and is recognized for his contributions to international conferences and publications on arbitration, foreign investment, and state responsibility.
