Matthew Kronby
Biography
Matthew specializes in cross-border compliance and dispute resolution under trade agreements, bilateral investment treaties, and Canadian law. He represents business and government clients from around the world in trade negotiations and disputes involving agreements such as the WTO, USMCA and CPTPP; in trade remedy proceedings; and in navigating economic sanctions and export control laws. Before entering private practice, Matthew was head of the Government of Canada’s Trade Law Bureau, the office responsible for the government’s trade law advice and defending Canada’s interests in WTO and FTA disputes and investment treaty arbitration. He has led legal teams in numerous WTO panel and Appellate Body proceedings and served as Canada’s chief counsel for negotiation of the Canada-EU CETA and other FTAs. He is appointed to the rosters of panelists for state-to-state and environmental disputes under the CETA and for state-to-state and trade remedy disputes under the USMCA, and teaches international arbitration as an adjunct professor at the University of Toronto’s Faculty of Law.
