Biography

Valentina Cassata is a Vice President and M&A Senior Counsel at American Express and an officer of the IBA Corporate Law Committee. In her role at American Express, she retains primary legal responsibility for all phases of mergers, acquisitions, divestitures, joint ventures and other strategic transactions. She also leads the legal representation of the Amex Ventures team, which focuses on investing in innovative startups to enhance Amex’s core capabilities and accelerate efforts in consumer commerce and B2B services. Valentina earned a Master in Laws (LL.M.) at Stanford Law School and her J.D. (magna cum laude) at the University of Milan (Università degli Studi di Milano), Milan, Italy. She was also the recipient of an EU scholarship to study at the University of Brussels (ULB Université Libre de Brussels), where she focused on international private law and comparative commercial law. Valentina is admitted to the NY Bar as well as to the Italian Bar. Prior to joining American Express, she spent several years in the corporate department of Wachtell Lipton (NY).
