Biography

Rui de Oliveira Neves, lawyer and master in laws, has been counsel to national and international companies and the Portuguese government, with particular emphasis to the areas of energy and capital markets, being acknowledged by the market as leading lawyer in such areas of practice. General Counsel of Galp Energia group since 2013, responsible for the Legal and Governance department, he practiced law for 15 years at Morais Leitão, Galvão Teles, Soares da Silva & Associates, where he attained a partner position. He is as well the executive director of ISPG – Institute of Petroleum and Gas, a private association for advanced training and research. In the academic side he is a visiting lecturer at the Faculty of Law of the Universidade Católica Portuguesa in the area of energy law and at the Faculty of Law of the Universidade de Lisboa in the areas of corporate and securities law. He is an arbitrator with the Commercial Arbitration Center of the Commercial Arbitration Institute of the Oporto Commercial Association. He is member of the Governance Lab, group of more than 40 authors who are dedicated to the research and discussion on topics related to private and public corporate governance, with a view to actively contribute to the progress of practices, recommendations and legal rules. Author of various specialized publications in the areas of corporate law, governance and capital markets.
