Biography

Dr. Kilian Bälz is a partner at Amereller (www.amereller.com), an international law firm focusing on the MENA Region with offices in Cairo, Tripoli, Damascus, Erbil, Baghdad, and Dubai (in addition to Berlin and Munich). He focuses his practice on finance and projects (energy, telecom). In addition, he represents clients in arbitration proceedings. Over the last years, he was involved in a number of high profile disputes involving Libyan parties and concerning legal aspects of fragile statehood, raising issues such as the liability for damage caused by militia, the legal status of public authorities in situations, denial of justice, and dual government structures. Before joining Amereller as partner in 2010, Kilian was a partner at Gleiss Lutz and the acting director of the Regional Centre for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency, a regional policy platform supporting renewable energies based in Cairo. He published widely on Middle Eastern business law and is a regular speaker at conferences. In 2008, he was a fellow at Harvard Law School. He an be contacted at kb@amereller.com.
