Biography

RAËD FATHALLAH PARTNER IN BREDIN PRAT’S INTERNATIONAL ARBITRATION GROUP IN PARIS. Raëd Fathallah specialises in international arbitration. He acts as counsel in large-scale and complex investment and commercial arbitrations, in which he represents corporations, sovereign States and State entities. He has recently been entrusted with a nine’s mandate representing the Arab Republic of Egypt in investment treaty arbitration proceedings. He is also an accomplished arbitrator and has served in more than 50 cases under the ICSID, ICC, LCIA, DIFC-LCIA, UNCITRAL, DIAC and CRCICA Rules, including as chairperson and sole arbitrator in the vast majority of those cases. Whether as counsel or as arbitrator, in the past 20 years, he has been involved in more than 150 proceedings, both ad hoc or under the major Rules (including ICC, ICSID, LCIA, DIFC-LCIA, UNCITRAL, DIAC, BCDR, CRCICA and OHADA) and involving a variety of legal systems. Although his experience spans all continents, industries and services, he is renowned for his expertise in matters involving North Africa and the Middle East, and is particularly focused on the mining, oil and gas, and construction sectors. Raëd Fathallah is recognized as a leading practitioner in the field by the most prestigious legal directories and league tables. He is currently ranked in Band 2 by Chambers & Partners in France and recognized in Who’s Who Legal France-Arbitration, Who’s Who Legal Arbitration: Lawyers, and Who’s Who Legal Thought Leaders – Arbitration (2018). In January 2014, Raëd Fathallah was awarded the prestigious biennial ASA Prize for Advocacy in International Arbitration which is awarded to “recognize counsel who, through their exceptional talents in advocacy, contribute most effectively to the promotion of effective resolution of international commercial disputes through arbitration.”Raëd was then praised by leading members of the international arbitration community as being “one of the brightest” lawyers who delivers “first-class work” (GAR, 2014). A Lebanese and Canadian national, Raëd Fathallah is admitted to practice as a Solicitor in England & Wales as well as Avocat in France and in Québec, Canada. He holds a Licence en Droit Civil (L.L.L.) from the University of Ottawa, a Master of Comparative Jurisprudence (M.C.J.) from the New York University School of Law and a Doctorate in Law (D. Phil) from the University of Oxford. Prior to joining Bredin Prat, he worked with major international law firms in Canada, New York and Paris. A native Arabic speaker, Raëd Fathallah is also fluent in French and English and has conducted proceedings (as counsel and as arbitrator) in all three languages.
