Biography

Emma Bate, General Legal Counsel, heads up the legal profession at the ICO. She joined from DAC Beachcroft LLP, where she worked as a partner specialising in data protection and commercial law. Over the last 20 years, Emma has worked with a wide range of clients from across the public, private and third sectors. Earlier in her career she focused on advising the public sector, particularly NHS clients, on data protection law. In recent years her focus shifted to insurance and financial services. Emma has been listed in the legal directors for her data protection knowledge, with clients quoted as saying she is a 'pleasure to work with'.
