Biography
Partner, Tax, Al Tamimi, UAE Shiraz Khan is the Head of Tax and leads Al Tamimi’s tax practice in the Middle East. He is a UK qualified lawyer with over 17 years of international tax experience, the last 10 years which have been gained in the Middle East. Prior to joining Al Tamimi, he was the global head of tax at a leading multinational where he was responsible for the tax affairs in over 100 countries. He has also worked for a top international law firm in the UK and big 4 firms in both the UK and the Middle East. Shiraz specialises in advising on international tax structuring and tax aspects of cross border M&A, private equity, structured finance, Islamic finance and real estate transactions. He has in-depth knowledge and expertise of international tax systems in the Middle East and across all taxes including corporate tax, withholding taxes, VAT and transfer pricing. He has particular expertise in advising Gulf based sovereign wealth funds, private equity groups and real estate investment funds on structuring their global real estate investments across Europe, Middle East, Asia and America. He has strong experience in advising on tax issues in the real estate sector including the development of global investment platforms and tax efficient holding and financing structures to minimise tax leakage on acquisition, local taxes during holding period, withholding taxes on profit repatriation and capital gains on exit. Shiraz regularly speaks at conferences, seminars and events on real estate related tax issues and has been involved in advising governments on the drafting of tax laws.
