Andreas Frischknecht

Biography

Andreas (Andy) Frischknecht is a partner with Chaffetz Lindsey LLP, a boutique dispute resolution firm in New York, where he focuses on cross-border litigation and international arbitration. Andy has litigated a broad range of cases in the state and federal courts in New York and elsewhere, in trial courts and on appeal. He regularly represents corporate clients in transnational cases, including complex commercial contract and financial disputes, as well as sovereigns and state-owned entities in disputes arising under the Foreign Sovereign Immunities Act. He has extensive experience with procedural issues arising in transnational litigation, including parallel proceedings, forum non conveniens, and discovery in aid of foreign proceedings under 28 U.S.C. § 1782. Andy regularly represents clients in international arbitrations under various institutional rules, and in subsequent award enforcement proceedings. He is a co-author of Enforcement of Foreign Arbitral Awards and Judgments in New York (Kluwer Law International 2018). Originally Swiss-trained but with more than 16 years of U.S. experience, Andy has a deep understanding of both the civil and common law systems and frequently counsels overseas clients on what to expect in U.S. litigation. Andy is a bilingual English and German speaker and regularly acts for German-speaking parties in U.S. proceedings and international arbitrations.
