Gerhard Wagner
Biography
Prof. Dr. Gerhard Wagner has held the position of Professor of Civil Law, Economic Law, and Economics at Humboldt University since 2013. At Humboldt University, he is the founder and academic director of the English-language LL.M.-program „International Dispute Resolution“. Before joining the Humboldt faculty, Wagner served as executive director of the Institute of Civil Procedure and Dispute Resolution at the University of Bonn. In 2003, he was a Visiting Fellow at University College in London, UK. During 2010-2011, he was Visiting Professor of Law at the University of Chicago Law School, Chicago, IL. From 2009 through 2014 he also served as Professor of Fundamentals of Private Law at Erasmus University, Rotterdam, Netherlands. From 2008 through 2011 he was Honorary Professor of Law at Renmin University School of Law, Beijing, China. Wagner is president of the Private Law Teachers’ Association (Zivilrechtslehrervereinigung), member of the European Law Institute, and a corresponding member of North Rhine-Westphalian Academy of Sciences, Humanities and the Arts. In 2013, Wagner was awarded the Prize of the Academy of the Berlin-Brandenburg Academy of Sciences and Humanities. Since 2015, he has served as an External Academic Member of the Max Planck Institute for Comparative and International Private Law in Hamburg. Wagner is a board member of the German Institution of Arbitration (DIS) and has published widely in the fields of contracts, torts, litigation and arbitration.
