Heather Gething
Biography
As head of Tax Investigations and Dispute Resolution in the London office, Heather focuses on all aspects of taxation advice and disputes. Heather is held in high regard for her tax disputes expertise, with experience acting for individual claimants along with significant multinational corporations. Chambers 2011 recognised her as a 'force to be reckoned with in the industry who offers swift insight into the issues', in Chambers 2017 a client is quoted as saying, 'you have a sense that you're dealing with the very best with Heather'' and in Chambers 2019 sources note she is 'very user-friendly and knowledgeable'. Heather has over 30 years' experience in handling tax matters on behalf of clients in the energy, retail, manufacturing, shipping, telecoms, financial and insurance sectors. Heather is a Solicitor Advocate, an Accredited Mediator with the Centre for Effective Dispute Resolution and a Judge in the First-tier Tax Tribunal. Heather has conducted tax disputes in UK tax tribunals, Superior Courts and in the Administrative Courts in the UK and taken cases to the EU Court of Justice. She has also assisted clients engaged in foreign tax disputes by working closely with local counsel ensuring no stone is left unturned in developing technical analysis of the issue and deploying authorities and assisting in developing strategy for the handling of the dispute. Territories include Australia, France, Norway, South Africa, Falkland Islands, and various countries in the Caribbean.
