Biography
Jay Lefton is a partner in the Toronto office of Fasken Martineau DuMoulin LLP and practises corporate and securities law. Jay advises clients on public and private mergers & acquisitions transactions, private equity matters and public and private financings, as well as assisting with strategic alliances, technology transfer and licensing. Jay assists acquirers and target companies on negotiated transactions and unsolicited takeover bids, most of which are multi-jurisdictional. He works predominantly in the technology and life sciences sector. Jay also represents universities, hospitals, research institutions and researchers in connection with the commercialization of their discoveries. He has been recognized in Who's Who (Global) in the categories of Mergers & Acquisitions and Life Sciences (Transactional).
Jay takes a leading role in the firm’s Israeli and West Bank initiative, and travels to the region several times a year. He has been ranked by Chambers and Partners as one of 20 lawyers worldwide with the recognition of “Foreign Legal Expert” for Corporate/M&A--Israel.
Jay is a former member of the Ontario Securities Commission's Securities Advisory Committee, advising the Commission on various matters, including legislative and policy initiatives. Jay was an adjunct faculty member at Toronto’s Osgoode Hall Law School and has also instructed at the Rotman School of Management at the University of Toronto. He is an active member of many M&A related committees and working groups of both the American Bar Association and the International Bar Association.
