Dear friends and colleagues,

In the context of its 50th anniversary celebration, the IBA Arbitration Committee is delighted to bring you a very special edition of the Committee’s newsletter, dedicated to each of its main soft law products: the IBA Rules of Evidence, the IBA Guidelines on Conflicts of Interest and the IBA Guidelines on Party Representation.

The importance of those products to the framework of international arbitration cannot be overstated. Hence, the purpose of this special edition is to memorialize the history of the creation and revision of the IBA Rules and Guidelines, with its challenges, discussions, doubts, difficult choices, criticism, achievements – and anecdotes, written by those who chaired those initiatives.

Alexis Mourre, Álvaro López de Argumedo, David Arias, David W Rivkin, Fernando Mantilla-Serrano, Guido Tawil, Joseph Neuhaus, Mark Friedman, Nathalie Voser, Julie Bédard, and Otto de Witt Wijnen have kindly agreed to share their experience with our Committee members.

We are extremely grateful to all contributors to this special edition of the newsletter and to the IBA production team for their continued support.

As usual, all Committee members who are interested in contributing to the newsletter are encouraged to contact us.

We hope to see you all in Paris during the IBA Annual Conference!
