The current difficult times faced by the shipping and offshore sector make it more important than ever to choose the proper insurance cover to minimise uninsured/underinsured exposure, while always considering the cost-effectiveness of the cover selected.
This panel will address topical aspects of marine insurance, including P&I, Hull & Machinery, Loss of Hire, FD&D, Cargo, Offshore and Port/Terminal cover, with focus on the more intricate and complex questions owners face when buying insurance to cover their vessels, rigs and port operations worldwide. The so-called ‘included and excluded cover’ within the different types of insurance and also what the insured ‘must do and must not do’ to keep their cover in place, such as the duty to inform relevant facts which could affect the risk factors, the duty to mitigate the losses, among other technical requirements to be observed. The session will also consider the best practices in claims handling and the insurer’s and insured’s expectations of each other.
