Description

5G networks bring huge improvements in bandwidth, speed and latency – but also require a major shift in the way network elements are designed. Cell density will increase and network management will require the collection of huge amounts of metadata. Telecoms regulators will face challenges in managing the allocation of spectrum, striking a balance between incumbents and allowing opportunities for new players to enter the market, just as telecoms companies will grapple with how to share and deploy infrastructure. This session explores the implications of these changes, and also surveys the approaches taken in regulating 5G rollouts.
