Friday 22 November (1015 - 1115)

Committee(s)

Law Firm Management Committee (Lead)

Description

1) All law firms will have ‘legal design’ teams. Whether you are summarising or trying to grasp the essence of complicated legal information, using visual graphics is an incredibly powerful method of getting a message across. Visuals are useful to clearly and quickly illustrate the message while improving both comprehension and retention. That is why ‘legal design’ has become one of the most trending phrases in 2018. Sarah will explain all. Tedette talk by Sarah van Hecke Legal Design Adviser, Houthoff, Amsterdam 2) We will train our new lawyers differently. Many firms are wrestling with how to train lawyers so as to be both great generalists and great specialists and to attract the attention of those lawyers. Many law firms report attendance falling off at training sessions. How will we train our new lawyers to be fit for the future? Tedette talk by Kathryn Rousin Global Director of Learning, White & Case, New York; Co-Chair, IBA Academic and Professional Development Committee 3) Will the chargeable hour really be dead? For the last 50 years, everyone has been talking about the death of the chargeable hour. In ten years’ time, will it really be dead or is it the only reasonable measure for both sides? Should we be refreshing our approach to the chargeable hour rather than killing it? Tedette talk by Norman Clark Walker Clark, Fort Myers, Florida; Member, IBA Law Firm Management Committee
