Evergrande and beyond: the challenges facing China’s real estate developers
Tuesday 14 June (1330 - 1430)
Committee(s)
Insolvency Section
(Lead)
North American Regional Forum
Description
Chinese real property developers appear to be over indebted – with more than $100 billion in debt maturing in 2022 alone. The largest developer – Evergrande – is already in default. The panel will discuss, among other things, the causes of this sector’s distress, the cross-jurisdictional nature of the developers, whether some developers are ‘too big to fail’ and the ‘on-shore’ versus ‘off-shore’ dynamic that is likely to play out based upon the capital structures common in this sector.
