Session information
Consolidation vs concentration : key considerations in merger control trends
Friday 13 November (1500 - 1545)
Description
Telecommunications infrastructure transactions present competition authorities with a difficult balancing act: consolidation is often necessary to fund network investment and expand connectivity, but it can also entrench market concentration. Drawing on recent transactions such as Vodacom/Maziv in South Africa, this session examines the theories of harm arising in the sector, and how authorities can weigh infrastructure consolidation against concentration concerns — with sector-specific examples and international perspectives.
