Webcast interview and Q&A with Navi Pillay, UN High Commissioner for Human Rights - film

Navi Pillay, United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, was interviewed for a wide-ranging IBA webcast and Q&A in May 2014 as part of the IBA's webcast series. A South African of Indian Tamil origin, Ms Pillay served as the first non-white female judge of the High Court of South Africa and President of the International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda before taking up her post at the UN in 2008.

In this webcast she discussed the ke y challenges of her role and gave her views on some of the most serious and complex human rights crises across the world. She also addressed pressing questions on balances between justice and immunity; personal freedom and global security, and the role business can play in fighting human rights violations.

The interview was conducted by veteran BBC correspondent Kirsty Lang. Lang has worked on the BBC’s flagship Today programme, and is a former foreign correspondent for Newsnight, Channel 4 News and The Sunday Times. For over a decade she presented BBC current affairs programme World News Today, and she currently presents BBC Radio Four’s Front Row series.
