Navigating personal and professional growth in the legal industry, part three: the senior partner journey – supporting the final phase and life beyond

Rupinder Malik is a Senior Partner and an Executive Committee member at JSA, top tier law firm in India. Rupinder is a Corporate/M&A and White-Collar Crimes Investigations lawyer with more than 27 years of experience. She is an expert in Mergers and Acquisitions, joint ventures; strategic alliances; cross-border investments; and restructurings. She has led some complex transactions and advised clients on foreign investments and related regulatory issues for India entry as well as matters related to general corporate, employment, information technology and foreign exchange control laws. She has also led investigation into claims of misconducts including fraud, money laundering, bribery, corruption, sexual harassment, and violation of internal codes of conduct. Prior to JSA, Rupinder was with Baker & McKenzie. She is also a Chapter leader of India Chapter of the Women’s White Collar Defense Association (“WWCDA”) which is a coalition of women attorneys and other professionals, globally. She is also a Legal Lead of Women’s India Chamber of Commerce and Industry (WICCI) in their Banking and Credit Council and on the legal board of “Hera” an NGO promoted by women entrepreneurs and industry leaders across the world.

Stephen specialises in privatisations, and debt and equity securities offerings, especially those with cross-border elements, and has worked on listings on over 15 different stock exchanges. He also has extensive experience of cross-border M&A transactions and advising on regulatory and corporate governance issues. Stephen regularly trains boards on corporate governance best practice. Stephen has acted for buyers, sellers, targets, financial advisers and management boards, and sees issues from all perspectives. He has broad sector experience and, as a 'hands-on' partner, gets fully involved in all drafting and negotiations. Known for his global perspective and local knowledge, Stephen has practised in the United States, throughout Europe and in Asia, working on transactions in over 50 countries.

With over 20 years of experience as partner at Loyens & Loeff, an international law firm with some 1.500 employees, I now am a seasoned consultant in transformation processes and leadership development, who helps executives and professionals achieve their full potential. As advisor to the firm, I design, implement, and run a development program for the firm's 100 plus equity partners. I also serve as a member of the Management Board of the International Bar Association and as its Chair of the Legal Practice Division. I am passionate about diversity and inclusion, and I have co-founded and chaired the IBA's Diversity & Inclusion Council and the firm's Diversity Council. I have extensive international experience, having lived and worked abroad for many years, in New York, Milan, and Hong Kong. I excel at communication, transformation and leadership development. My mission is to empower and inspire others to achieve their goals and contribute to the success of their organizations. I graduated in law, have several post graduate degrees, including the New Board Program at Nyenrode Business University and a certification in Executive Coaching from VU Amsterdam. I now participate in the Executive Master in Change program at Insead at the Fontainebleau campus.
