AI 101 for the bar and bench
AI is rapidly transforming the practice of law and the administration of justice – from automating document review and research to raising novel legal questions around intellectual property, liability and ethics. This session will address the intersection of AI and copyright, providing practitioners the technical foundation to better understand how AI models work and navigate IP disputes in the age of AI. This panel aims to demystify AI and create a dialogue between technology experts, legal practitioners and industry leaders, to enable meaningful discussions on policy, governance and innovation. It will also introduce members of the IBA and members of the broader legal community to the fundamentals of AI, including how large language models (LLMs) are developed and trained, and their relevance to legal practice, intellectual property and broader legal and regulatory issues. Participants will have the opportunity to hear from OpenAI how AI models are developed, learn how companies like AutoDesk are building products that leverage generative AI and hear from legal and policy experts about approaches to copyright across the Asia Pacific region.
